January 2010: Blackrose

This month we'll be working on Blackrose from the Winter 2008 issue of Knitty. As an added bonus, it even comes with a pattern for matching wrist warmers.

What yarn will you be using? I'm stuck between Socks that Rock's Thraven, Lenore, and Valkyrie colorways.

I have a question!!!

Are we aiming to knit up stuff in a month, and pick something new next time? Or longer than that?

I think having a deadline is important. If I don't have a deadline, I just keep casting on new stuff and creating more half-finished projects. One a month may be too ambitious, though. Perhaps one every other month?

I am the same, see: 4 pairs of partially done socks. I do run out of needles eventually, though, but I was just thinking about it and realized I've got at least one unused sock pair. Plus hopefully a second if they show up in the mail.

Every other month sounds good for me. Or maybe we could have like amnesty periods.

I -- totally, of course, not having a problem with exponential partially-done projects *hides bin under desk* -- would agree with the every other month thing.

+1 every other month. Deadlines are handy, yes, but for my part I can't knit one sock in two weeks....

Alternatively, the comm could go every month and slowpokes like me could join in whenever we're able. I'm not fussed.

Oh, those do look nice! I'm thinking of taking up spinning (being a professional impoverished student I cannot afford the posh yarn I love - hard graft I can do, though!) and this might be a project to spin for once I've got the hang of it.

Just joined the group. Coincidentally, Blackrose is at the top of my queue on Ravelry! I have a lovely grey/black marled yarn from Wildfoote that will be very nice, I think. Two-at-a-time FTW!

Oh yay! I've always wanted to do a knit-a-long! I'll skip this pattern, mostly because I have a new year's resolution to finish some of my longstanding WIPs on needles, but I'll be in with you in March!

Current wip projects that will be finished: a sweater that's barely started, and the second Lindsay sock from Cookie A.
